noura sanatian (Violin)
Hailing from an Iranian background, Noura Sanatian grew up in Milton Keynes where she began her classical training at the age of 9 with Ruth Gap at the Milton Keynes Music Service. She went on to complete a BMus Hons in Violin Performance at Trinity College of Music where she studied with Andrew Sherwood. Here, she discovered her love for free improvised music and was ‘highly commended’ by pianist Douglas Finch for her performance with guitarist Tim Yates at the 2008 Gladys Puttick Extemporization competition.
Noura has previously collaborated with: composer Ayanna Witter-Johnson, dancer Vanessa Abreu for the ‘In The Moment Improvisation Festival 2009’, the Southbank Centre’s ‘Artists in Residence TAKEOVER’ project, west-end theatre production ‘Jet Set Go’, highly acclaimed drone duo ‘Stars of the Lid’ on their 2007 European tour, Alvin Curran for the performance of ‘Maritime Rites’ and ‘ActNoFact’ improvisation quintet, which performed live on Resonance FM as part of the ’40 Years from Scratch’ festival and she was also a member of the ‘School of Harmolodics’ at the ‘meltdown festival’ held at the Royal Festival Hall where she worked with Patty Smith, Fred Frith, David Murray and Robert Wyatt.
She is currently a member of ‘The Clockwork Quartet’, alternative folk group ‘Pigling Bland’ ‘ActnoFact’ and ‘Carl and the Saganauts’ with whom she recorded with for Rhys Darby and David Farrier's new radio show, ‘The Cryptid Factor’.
